Bitcoin Education In Surat

Bitcoin Bharat Brings Bitcoin Education to IIIT Surat Through the Bitcoin India Tour
Surat has long been recognized as India's diamond and textile capital, built on generations of entrepreneurship, innovation, and global trade. Today, the city is also emerging as a growing technology hub, with institutions like IIIT Surat preparing the next generation of engineers and innovators. As technology continues to reshape the global economy, understanding the future of money has become just as important as understanding the future of technology.
To encourage this conversation, Bitcoin Bharat, India's largest grassroots Bitcoin education movement, brought the Bitcoin India Tour to IIIT Surat on March 25, 2026. More than 100+ students attended the session, which was supported by Fedi, to explore Bitcoin through technology, economics, and interactive learning.
Understanding Money Before Understanding Bitcoin
The workshop began with a simple but important question: What makes good money?
Students explored the evolution of money and the characteristics that have defined strong monetary systems throughout history, including scarcity, durability, portability, divisibility, and censorship resistance. These discussions helped students understand why inflation, expanding money supply, and declining purchasing power continue to influence economies around the world, providing the foundation for understanding why Bitcoin was created.
Bitcoin cannot be understood without first understanding money.
Exploring the Technology Behind Bitcoin
Led by Mahak Kalra, an IIT Bombay graduate, Startup India supported founder, and Stanford Seed Spark alumna, the session simplified complex technical concepts into engaging discussions.
Students learned how Bitcoin transactions are created using digital signatures, verified by thousands of independent nodes, and permanently recorded through Proof of Work. The workshop also introduced cryptographic hashing, the role of miners in securing the network, and why Bitcoin's decentralized architecture allows anyone to verify transactions without relying on a central authority.
Rather than treating blockchain as a buzzword, students gained practical insights into the engineering principles that power the world's first decentralized monetary network.
Beyond Investment: Bitcoin as Open Source Innovation
The discussion moved beyond price and speculation to explore Bitcoin as one of the world's largest open source projects. Students learned about Bitcoin's fixed supply of twenty one million coins, the significance of the Bitcoin Halving, and how developers across the world continue improving the network through open source collaboration.
The session also introduced self custody, helping students understand the importance of private keys, hardware wallets, and taking responsibility for digital ownership. Speakers highlighted how Bitcoin creates opportunities not only for investors but also for developers, researchers, educators, entrepreneurs, designers, and cybersecurity professionals.
Building Bitcoin Literacy in Surat
The enthusiasm at IIIT Surat reflected a growing interest in learning about Bitcoin through education rather than hype. By combining economics, computer science, and financial literacy, the workshop encouraged students to think critically about one of the most important technological innovations of the digital age.
As the Bitcoin India Tour continues across the country, Bitcoin Bharat remains committed to helping students understand Bitcoin through responsible education, meaningful conversations, and practical learning experiences.
