To support this new generation of thinkers and builders, Bitcoin Bharat, India’s largest grassroots Bitcoin education movement, brought the Bitcoin India Tour to Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay), Vidyalankar Institute of Technology Mumbai (VIT Mumbai), Smt. Indira Gandhi College of Engineering and Management (SEMSR), Mumbai Education Trust Institute of Engineering (MET Institute), Kishinchand Chellaram College (KC College), Terna Engineering College Navi Mumbai (Terna College), College of Engineering Pune (COEP), Matrix School of Management Pune (Matrix School of Management), Symbiosis Centre for Management Studies Pune (SCMS Pune), Vidyalankar Institute of Technology Amravati (VIT Amravati), and I.I.R.W’s International Centre of Excellence in Engineering and Management Aurangabad (IIRW ICEEM).

Through interactive workshops, live demonstrations, and open discussions, students explored Bitcoin as a technological breakthrough, a transparent monetary network, and a growing field of opportunity for innovators across disciplines.

Mumbai: Beginning With the Question of What Makes Good Money

At Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay), Vidyalankar Institute of Technology Mumbai (VIT Mumbai), Smt. Indira Gandhi College of Engineering and Management (SEMSR), Mumbai Education Trust Institute of Engineering (MET Institute), and Kishinchand Chellaram College (KC College), the sessions began not with Bitcoin itself, but with a simple question:

What qualities should money have in a digital world?

Students discussed scarcity, portability, divisibility, durability, fungibility, acceptability, and censorship resistance before tracing the evolution of money from barter systems and precious metals to paper currency and modern digital payments.

Once these foundations were established, speakers introduced Bitcoin as a monetary network with a fixed supply of twenty one million coins, explaining how scarcity, transparency, and verifiability distinguish it from traditional financial systems. In Mumbai, where finance and entrepreneurship are deeply embedded in the city’s culture, these conversations naturally connected Bitcoin to broader discussions about purchasing power, inflation, and the future of global finance.

IIT Bombay and Mumbai Colleges: Following a Bitcoin Transaction Step by Step

At Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay) and the Mumbai colleges, the workshops unfolded as a practical journey through the Bitcoin network.

Students learned how a Bitcoin transaction is created in a wallet, authorized using a private key, and broadcast across the peer to peer network. They then explored how Bitcoin nodes, computers running open source Bitcoin software, independently verify each transaction and maintain their own copy of the public ledger.

The sessions explained how P2P nodes propagate new transactions across the network, why independent verification is critical for security, and how decentralized consensus prevents double spending and counterfeit coins. Through visual demonstrations, students saw how thousands of nodes work together to agree on a single version of the blockchain without relying on a central authority.

Navi Mumbai and Pune: Understanding Mining, Proof of Work, and Network Integrity

At Terna Engineering College Navi Mumbai (Terna College), College of Engineering Pune (COEP), Matrix School of Management Pune (Matrix School of Management), and Symbiosis Centre for Management Studies Pune (SCMS Pune), the conversation moved deeper into the engineering and economic principles that keep Bitcoin secure.

Students explored the role of miners, blocks, hashing, and Proof of Work in maintaining the integrity of the blockchain. Speakers explained how miners compete to solve complex hashing puzzles using SHA 256, why creating a valid block requires significant computational effort, and why verifying that block is comparatively simple for every node on the network.

The workshops also demonstrated how accumulated Proof of Work protects transaction history, making it extraordinarily difficult to alter past records. Students discussed how game theory encourages honest participation, how miners are rewarded through new Bitcoin issuance and transaction fees, and why Bitcoin’s security model has become one of the most studied innovations in distributed systems.

Amravati and Aurangabad: Exploring Self Custody, Regulation, and Global Innovation

At Vidyalankar Institute of Technology Amravati (VIT Amravati) and I.I.R.W’s International Centre of Excellence in Engineering and Management Aurangabad (IIRW ICEEM), the sessions focused on responsible participation in the Bitcoin ecosystem.

Students learned about self custody, the principle that controlling your private keys means controlling your Bitcoin. Live wallet demonstrations introduced private keys, public keys, seed phrase recovery, and best practices for securing digital assets. Speakers contrasted self custody with centralized custody, helping students understand the importance of independent ownership in a digital financial system.

The discussions also covered Bitcoin’s legal and regulatory landscape in India, including taxation, compliance requirements, and the importance of understanding Bitcoin before investing. Students explored the distinction between Bitcoin and the broader cryptocurrency industry, emphasizing Bitcoin’s decentralized design, transparent monetary policy, and open source governance.

Beyond the Classroom: Building, Innovating, and Asking Better Questions

Every Bitcoin Bharat workshop is designed to be practical, engaging, and accessible to students from every academic background.

Across Maharashtra, students participated in live wallet demonstrations, transaction walkthroughs, interactive quizzes, myth busting discussions, and open question and answer sessions. They explored topics such as Bitcoin mining economics, network security, the Bitcoin Halving, the Lightning Network, global adoption trends, and career opportunities in software development, cybersecurity, research, education, entrepreneurship, and open source contribution.

Students also discovered how Bitcoin extends beyond finance into real world innovation. Discussions highlighted Lightning applications, developer challenges, Bitcoin based payment systems, and the growing global ecosystem of builders creating tools that move value online as easily as information moves across the internet.

Rather than focusing on speculation, the workshops emphasized education before participation, encouraging students to think critically, verify information independently, and understand Bitcoin through first principles.
